Adaptive Technologies

Adaptive Technologies Case Studies
Scene 1
There are several methods that teachers can use to accommodate different learning styles. For those students with reading disabilities, I or another student could read the story out loud and have those students answer questions from the story. To accommodate student’s visual impairments, I could have their assignments in larger print or use a transcriber. Also, there may be students who have comprehension problems that need one on one student/teacher interaction.
Scene 2
I think it is a great advantage to have experienced teachers to consult with. By having someone who has already mastered tasks that I am facing alleviates the hassle of my trying to find ways to solve problems. Therefore, I will spend more time implementing strategies in aiding the student.
Scene 3
Marilyn uses graphic organizers to map out the organization of the book that she has decided she wants her students to create. The book will include art, wild animals, and natural habitats. She has designed differenent small activities to get the final product. She uses graphic organizers for labeling the characters, setting, and other elements of the story. She has designed differenent small activities to get the final product. Which would include activities that would allow the children to read and fill in their own graphic organizers, write in their journals, and a sequencing activity to help with comprehension. Any student to finish his/her work early could help Oscar by reading to him.
Scene 4
My experiences using the web to locate information as been ideal. It is an effective way to gather information and saves a lot of time.

Scene 5
The students working with Oscar were not at a disadvantage by being in Oscar's group but an advantage. They benefited by having the teacher work one-on-one with them. The students in Oscar's group were motivated by him because he stayed on task even with his special learning needs. Also, they were benefited by just being in a group rather than working alone because they learned from each other. I don't think Oscar's experience would have been as good as it was if he would have been in isolation with Juanita, I think he worked better being included with his peers. Because I think they motivated him to do a good just like he motivated them.
Scene 6
Marilyn used a WebQuest to help her students learn about the author of the books they had been reading in class. She showed them videos of the author's art techniques. She allowed the students to use graphic organizers to organize the story elements for the book they would make. Marilyn stayed committed to making sure Oscar didn't get left out by having a specialist to assist him. And by using even more technology to help him, such as: the the transcriber and the speech synthesis.
