The Beautiful Butterflies
Deep in a lovely meadow of beautiful flowers and trees, lived a very beautiful family of butterflies. Their wings were wide and brightly decorated. The largest was Daddy Butterfly,His wings were a rich, cobalt blue, with splashes of green and yellow. Moma Butterfly was the prettiest purple with bright pink and turquoise dots. Then, there were Brother and Sister Butterfly and they were just as beautiful. They were all just so beautiful and they knew it. They let everyone else know it too! They flew around all day looking down on all the other bugs as they did their daily chores. They used the little pond as a mirror to look at themselves. They flew over the pond all day admiring their beauty. The other bugs were not envious at all, they knew a little secret. Instead, they admired them and complimented them daily. But, the butterflies did not consider the other bugs compliments, instead, they flaunted their beauty everyday. They boasted to be better than all the other bugs. Especially the ants, not only were they plain, they couldn't even fly. The bumble bees were quite boring, as well. They could fly but, they were hairy and their wings were not pretty at all. The ants did not let the butterflies' constant critism bother them. The ants attended the colony and helped any other bug that they could. The bumble bees too! They collected as much nectar from the flowers that they could and made lots of honey. And whenever the bugs saw the butterflies, they would compliment them on how beautiful they looked! The Butterflies would reply, "We know", and fly away. The bugs comforted themselves in knowing they were not the only bugs the butterflies didn't like. The earthworms were ugly, useless, and always digging in the dirt. The grasshoppers were green and gross. The walking sticks wore their names well, they just looked like sticks! But, these bugs didn't let the butterflies' criticism bother them either. They just went about their daily activities and helping any other bug that they could. Then one day the butterfly family had an addition to the family. They proudly awaited the butterfly to spring from its' cacoon. They boasted about how beautiful the new butterfly would be. Soon, the butterfly did break away from it's cacoon and it was very beautiful, just as beautiful as the rest. They were very proud, "come on fly with us", they shouted, "show off your pretty wings". But he just stayed on the branch of the tree, he didn't fly at all. "Your wings are perfectly fine, why can't you fly?", asked Daddy Butterfly. "I'm trying but, I just can't", explained Baby Butterfly. Daddy Butterfly's heart was broken, "how can this be?", he replied. He began to think to himself, "He's not perfect, but, I still love him"! "We love you my son", he said and the whole family embraced him. Just then he had a thought. That's just how I should've felt about the ohter bugs. I didn't think they were perfect but, I shoud've loved them anyway. This made Daddy Butterfly very sad that they had been so mean to all those other bugs. Especially, since the other bugs were always so nice to them! He flew away very grieved. He flew around thinking how his family hadn't been perfect all. They were beautiful on the outside, but not on the inside. Now the other bugs would pay them back because Baby Butterfly couldn't fly. "He's obviously not perfect", he thought. He flew home feeling pretty down! When Daddy Butterfly arrived home, he was delighted to see all the bugs gathered around to welcome Baby Butterfly. The ants, bumble bees, earthworms, grasshoppers, and walking sticks were all there to let Baby Butterfly know that they would always be there to help him in any way they could. This made the Butterfly Family very happy, happier than being beautiful ever could! Daddy Butterfly still wondered, "how can they still love us after all we've done?". Those other bugs knew the Butterfly Family wasn't perfect. The other bugs knew they were beautiful! Their beauty was on the inside. They knew the Butterfly Family would learn this valuable lesson someday and went on loving them! They would love Baby Butterfly too!
