Exit Questions for IT 365

1. I would explain that ‘technology integration’ is essential for students to get the most from education. There are many tools in technology that aid the teacher and also help the student’s tasks much easier.

2. A concept map to be done on the computer could be used with any subject. For instance, a reading assignment to list the story elements.

3. A. Hardware-computer software-flash drive B. Browser-Mozilla Firefox C. Google

D. Spreadsheet-Excel: Database-Access

4. I think the videos on stress and anger will be beneficial because, even with the smartest students, if they don’t know how to handle stress, they will not be very efficient.

5. Yes, if you have two dependable people because they can both give insight on a topic to get a better understanding of the assignment given.

6. Have students sign up with twitter outside of class and get acquainted with the other students before seeing them in class.

7. I would suggest that the tweets only be done on the computer and not on cell phones, it’s just easier.

9. Just more tools for lesson planning.

10. I didn’t know anything about creating a Teacher Webpage. I was happy to be able to get one started and just add to it once I’m a teacher.

Sexting

Sexting
Wow, I was really amazed by all of this(the act and also how very serious the punishment is).
I read the article "Teens face porn charges in sexting' (http:www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgtrib/news/mostread/s)_
Three 14 and 15 year old girls were caught sending nude pictures to three 16 and 17 year old boys. The girls are now being charged with manufacturing child porn and the boys are being charged with possession of child porn. They may be faced with more charges because the police believe more people may have seen the photos. This is very serious and we as parents should deal with it as such. I'm very old fashioned and my first thought is they don't need to have cell phones at such a young age anyway! Because they're not allowed to use them at school.
If they have after school activities and need to call for a ride home, they should only be allowed a few minutes to do this. And it doesn't have to be a fancy camera phone. They should be allowed a phone like that at an older age. We have to be strict with our chidlren. We have to get in their business. People are afraid to do this but, it is neccessary. If a school age child has a cell phone, it needs to be highly monitored. The parent should check the phone daily to see who their child is calling or texting and keep up with their minutes. Also, who is calling and texting them.
With all that being said we still have to educate them. We should always take the time to talk our children about topics like this and be very open about them. We should let them watch the same videos we just watched for this assignment and read the articles too! If at all possible, we should let them meet anyone who has been affected by situations like this. Not all children but, most act out when they are not getting proper attention at home. We have to spend quality time with our children, teach them about all the dangers around them, and love them. I think this is pretty much all we can do. As a teacher I wouldn't treat the situation any differently except for the fact that I couldn't monitor my students cell phones like I could my children. I would still take the time to talk to them, show them videos, and always be there to listen to and help them in any way that I could.

PBS Video

Do I think videos are effective tools for teaching? Yes, I really do. I think allowing the students to watch a video and letting them see first hand the topic of discussion makes it easier to learn. Teaching/ talking to a child is very effective but, the combination of teaching a child a particular subject and then let them watch a video on the topic is much more effective.

Adaptive Technologies

Adaptive Technologies Case Studies
Scene 1
There are several methods that teachers can use to accommodate different learning styles. For those students with reading disabilities, I or another student could read the story out loud and have those students answer questions from the story. To accommodate student’s visual impairments, I could have their assignments in larger print or use a transcriber. Also, there may be students who have comprehension problems that need one on one student/teacher interaction.
Scene 2
I think it is a great advantage to have experienced teachers to consult with. By having someone who has already mastered tasks that I am facing alleviates the hassle of my trying to find ways to solve problems. Therefore, I will spend more time implementing strategies in aiding the student.
Scene 3
Marilyn uses graphic organizers to map out the organization of the book that she has decided she wants her students to create. The book will include art, wild animals, and natural habitats. She has designed differenent small activities to get the final product. She uses graphic organizers for labeling the characters, setting, and other elements of the story. She has designed differenent small activities to get the final product. Which would include activities that would allow the children to read and fill in their own graphic organizers, write in their journals, and a sequencing activity to help with comprehension. Any student to finish his/her work early could help Oscar by reading to him.
Scene 4
My experiences using the web to locate information as been ideal. It is an effective way to gather information and saves a lot of time.

Scene 5
The students working with Oscar were not at a disadvantage by being in Oscar's group but an advantage. They benefited by having the teacher work one-on-one with them. The students in Oscar's group were motivated by him because he stayed on task even with his special learning needs. Also, they were benefited by just being in a group rather than working alone because they learned from each other. I don't think Oscar's experience would have been as good as it was if he would have been in isolation with Juanita, I think he worked better being included with his peers. Because I think they motivated him to do a good just like he motivated them.
Scene 6
Marilyn used a WebQuest to help her students learn about the author of the books they had been reading in class. She showed them videos of the author's art techniques. She allowed the students to use graphic organizers to organize the story elements for the book they would make. Marilyn stayed committed to making sure Oscar didn't get left out by having a specialist to assist him. And by using even more technology to help him, such as: the the transcriber and the speech synthesis.
